Few places in Florida offer a glimpse of Florida’s natural past than the coastal area between Marineland and Flagler Beach, known as The Hammock. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway to the west, The Hammock is rich in colorful history and a hidden gem of Flagler County. Belying its natural appearance, The Hammock of late has become known for some of the area’s most prestigious homes. The gated oceanside Communities of Hammock Dunes, Island Estates and Ocean Hammock are here as well as Hammock Beach Resort, all nested among shady oak trees just steps off uncrowded beaches. The area is a haven for beachgoers, naturalists, bird watchers and boaters.
The area is also home to an eclectic array of restaurants, retail shops and art galleries. Bing’s Landing County Park is also here, with its well-maintained boating ramp, fishing pier and park, along with miles of nature trails and conservation areas. Many areas remain unpaved in the Hammock, adding to its Old Florida feel. But, as remote as The Hammock might feel, only a short drive over the Hammock Dunes bridge lies the City of Palm Coast and access to I95.
The Hammock is ideal if you are looking for a quiet, slower paced lifestyle, close to the amenities of town.
